Support for Shakespeare at castle

AN OPEN-AIR summer theatre season in North Yorkshire has won a two-year sponsorship deal.

Property consultancy Knight Frank will support Sprite Production's Shakespeare at Ripley event.

This year's main production, Twelfth Night, opens its four-week run at Ripley Castle, near Harrogate, on June 17, with a one-off performance of the Factory Theatre production of Hamlet on July 7.

Knight Frank partner Tim Waring said: "We are delighted to be supporting the arts in this region at a time when there are question marks over whether support from the Arts Council will continue for a number of initiatives."

Knight Frank is the main sponsor for both this year's event and for 2009, which also marks the 700th anniversary of the Ingilby family at Ripley and will include not only a production of The Tempest but also a new play celebrating the anniversary.

Sprite Productions' artistic director, Liam Evans-Ford, said: "Knight Frank is the first company to commit to us for longer than one year and this means that we can now be absolutely certain of putting on another event in 2009.

"It also means we can plan ahead and have a secure future."

Sprite has been producing Shakespeare at Ripley since 2005, with audience figures growing to more than 4,000 for last year's production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Bookings and further information about this year's Shakespeare at Ripley season can be obtained on 01423-770632 or visit www.spriteproductions.co.uk.
