Roadshow safety tips for older drivers

SAFER driving workshops are being offered to older drivers keen to improve their skills behind the wheel.

A free roadshow is being run by North Yorkshire County Council and the 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Safety Partnership aimed at those aged 50-years and above.

There will be a brake reaction tester and a mini basic eye test plus there will be the chance to apply for a free one hour refresher drive to be taken at a later date.

Presentations are to be held offering advice on topics such as eyesight requirements, medication and driving and road signs.

Everyone who attends will get a free copy of the newly launched Older Driver DVD and the group’s Information for Older Drivers book.

The event is on Saturday, February 20, at the Methodist Church Hall, Ashdale Road, Helmsley and it runs from 10am to 3pm.

There is no need to book and the presentations run at 10.15am, 11.45am and 1.30pm.

Debbie Spencer, road safety project officer, said: "There’ll be plenty of information, tips and guidance available about how driving may have changed since they took their driving tests.

"The whole point is to help people adapt their driving and boost their confidence so they can stay safe and continue driving for long as they wish."
