PEOPLE across North Yorkshire are being urged to reduce the amount they throw away during the Christmas season.
The North Yorkshire Waste Partnership is calling on residents to take every opportunity to recycle, reuse and compost packaging and left-over food.
Chair Coun Clare Wood said: "Whether it’s children collecting their presents’ packaging for recycling or the cooks planning their meals to cut out waste, everyone has a part to play.
"If you consider the amount we waste just in glass during the festive season, over 13,350 tonnes is thrown away.
"If all those bottles and jars were recycled the country could save 4,200 tonnes of CO2 a year – the equivalent of taking 1,300 cars off the road for a year or saving on 630 around the world flights."
