Appeal for return of missing knitting patterns

KNITTERS who helped a tourist attraction compile an exhibition last year are being urged to check their sewing kits after a number of knitting patterns went missing.

Alison Clarke, from Northallerton, loaned a selection of her mother's patterns from the Forties to the World of James Herriot, in Thirsk, for the exhibition.

When they were returned to her, some were missing, including one for a favourite cardigan.

Musems officer Cathy Readman said: "These patterns hold great sentimental value to Alison, as well as being well-used by her.

"She knitted one of the cardigans for our exhibition and wants to knit it again - but is unable to without the pattern.

"We were loaned a huge number of patterns for this exhibition and it seems some of them have found their way to the wrong homes.

"We urge all those knitters who helped us to root through the pattern bag and see if they have any intruders."
