THE RAF will be celebrating its freedom of the county town of North Yorkshire next month.

Around 80 airmen and women from RAF Leeming will march through the streets of Northallerton on November 2.

The parade will celebrate the Illuminated Address, which was presented to RAF Leeming in 1978, and is a permanent record of the links, goodwill and friendship between the base and the town.

It will set off from outside All Saints’ Church on the High Street at 2pm, following a church service, and a flypast is due to take place, weather permitting, as the parade begins.

The Standard Parties from 34 Squadron RAF Regiment and 100 Squadron will be on parade.

The station commander, Group Captain William Gibson, and the Mayor of Northallerton, Councillor Tony Hall, will inspect the parade before it marches along the High Street.
