June 4, 2001 10:34: A CONSERVATIVE candidate for Lewisham has slammed Labour over shortcomings in policing.
She said Lewisham needs a Conservative government to put the problems right.
She said: "The people of Eltham have been let down again by Labour. They promised to be tough on crime and on its causes but we have seen the number of crimes go up and police go down.
"Violent crime is up eight per cent and robberies 21 per cent. A Conservative government can put more bobbies on the beat."
