A FOOTBALL club’s programme to tackle truancy among primary school children in the North-East has received further support in a bid to boost attendance figures.
The Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation has welcomed a partnership with the Tees Valley Community Foundation to teach children that every day at school matters.
Sixteen schools in the Tees Valley area are signed up to the scheme that engages with around 300 pupils per school across a three-year period.
Middlesbrough FC’s mascot, Roary the Lion, is the face of Roary’s Class Acts Primary School Attendance Programme, which runs in the club’s hometown and is part-funded by the Premier League.
Helena Bowman, head of MFC Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Tees Valley Community Foundation to address the important matter of attendance in primary schools across the Tees Valley.
“We believe the Roary’s Class Acts programme will have a huge benefit to those who struggle with their attendance.
“We have worked closely with Tees Valley Community Foundation in the past, and we are looking forward to building upon our fantastic partnership.”
