A SMALL school of 33 children has raised £870.15 for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

On Wednesday 6th May, the children of Swainby and Potto C of E Primary relay trekked the height of Everest (8848m) whilst carrying examples of life saving equipment and aid. Head teacher Mrs Bridge said: “The uncle of one of our children was trekking in Nepal at the time of the earthquake and saw the devastation first hand. We wanted to raise money as quickly as possible for the appeal and decided to do a sponsored event, collecting sponsors quickly over the bank holiday.

"I wanted even the smallest of our children to understand what the money was being used for and how hard the aid workers are working to reach those in need.”

Children came to school in the morning with their Forest School kit and the trek began with the packing of two large ruck sacks. The trek was not a walk in the park, not only did it rain all day but the school grounds had been transformed into a natural obstacle course.

The children were encouraged to press on by images of the people and devastation placed around the grounds. Finally, just as the bell rang for home time the last group walked in.
