THE North-East’s first ‘Pint of Science’ festival gets underway on Monday (May 18).

More than 18 scientists from Teesside University and Durham University will be holding forth in Middlesbrough pubs as part of an international festival that will see more than 600 science evenings take place in 50 cities in eight countries.

More than 18 North-East scientists are taking part from May 18-20 as part of the world's largest festival of public science lectures

The Teesside University Pint of Science festival brings a mixture of science talks, demonstrations and live experiments.

Researchers taking part in this year’s festival can be caught speaking at The Dickens Inn, TS One and O’Connell’s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Each evening costs £3, less than the cost of a pint.

The talks include 'You Are What You Eat – Friendship with Microbes for Better Health by Dr Mosharraf Sarker at The Dickens Inn – on Monday (May 18).

On Tuesday (May 19) Professor Zulfiqur Ali- will be talking about Disease and Devices – Diagnosing Disease in the Palm of Your Hand at The Dickens Inn.

And on Wednesday (May 20) Dr Gobind Pillai will be talking about The Power of the Grid at the TS One pub and considering the future of renewable energy in the UK and the world.
