IT has been another bumper year at Darlington College which has enrolled over 2,000 students on courses over the summer.

Students from schools across Darlington, South West Durham and North Yorkshire are studying everything from car mechanics to forensic science.

Part-time study has also proved popular this year with numbers nudging nearly 300.

Student recruitment manager Andrew Calder said it had been an extremely busy summer as more students chose vocational courses.

“Our numbers are well on target and we are really pleased so many young people have opted for qualifications and courses that will lead them on to university or into employment.

“We have lots of in-house experts to offer advice and guidance to students who might not have got what they wanted at GCSE or are unsure about A-level choices versus a course at college,” he said.

One of the most popular courses this year has been games design art and animation’ which this year runs in the new media centre at the college.

“We know students do well if they are happy in their surroundings and the media centre is conducive to learning in a very modern environment,” said Mr Calder..
