A FORMER director of international engineering firm Amec has given a talk to college students about career opportunities.

As part of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College’s Future Engineers’ Scheme, Bob Greener, ex Director of Amec gave a presentation to students on ‘A Life Enhancing Career in Professional Engineering.’ Students were given insight into Bob’s career in the oil and gas industries from the 1970’s to the present and the opportunities and cultural experiences he gained from living overseas and working on major projects. His experience as a professional engineer later led to him working for the UK’s Trade and Industry Department as an independent consultant. He clearly demonstrated how his engineering background, skills and knowledge enabled him to work closely and successfully with people from many different backgrounds and cultures.

Student, David Pauli, said: “It was an extremely informative talk as it opened my eyes to the wealth of opportunities engineering provides.”

Esther Farnell said: “Mr Greener’s talk was really interesting. It gave a good idea of the wide variety of pathways there are in engineering and the career opportunities that can arise from being a professional engineer”

Liz Bryan, QE’s Future Engineeers’ Co-ordinator, added: “Mr. Greener contacted me following a press release regarding our Future Engineers’ Scheme, volunteering his support. In his words, ‘engineering has given me endless opportunities, challenges and fulfilment and I would like to give something back.’ His talk was fascinating and certainly demonstrated that he has had a very rewarding career as a professional engineer.’’
