Match of the day

NEWLY-WEDS Sue and Peter Miller had a double reason to celebrate at the weekend.

The couple were married in Middlesbrough register office on Saturday morning. Six hours later they watched Darlington FCs play-off semi-final victory, still in their wedding attire.

The couple are big football fans and regularly follow Darlington, as well as Burnley and non-league Guiseley.

Mrs Miller said: We follow football all the time. We go every Saturday somewhere and we try to go the games all over the country.

Darlingtons season has been fantastic. We hope they do well and that they get through to the final.

Mr Miller is originally from Gateshead, but regularly made the journey south to watch games at Darlingtons former ground Feethams, and has supported them ever since.

He has also followed Burnley across the country since one of his former schoolfriends signed for them.

The couple, who now live in Shipley, West Yorkshire, started supporting Guiseley as their local non-league team.

Burnley finished 13th in the Championship this season, and Guiseley narrowly missed out on promotion from the Northern Premier League, leaving them cheering on Darlington for success this season.

They came up from Yorkshire last Friday for the wedding, which took place on Saturday at 10.45am.

They had a meal with friends and guests, before going to Darlingtons play-off fixture with Rochdale in the afternoon. They were greeted by club chairman George Houghton, before they retired to the stands, still in their wedding outfits, to watch Darlington take a 2-1 first leg advantage.

Mrs Miller added: The whole day was fantastic. Ian Miller scored the winner which was very apt. It was like a Georgell fix it day.

They now hope to get a ticket for this weekend's second leg at Spotland.

Mr Miller, 50, and Mrs Miller, 55, both have grown-up children from previous marriages.
