ART student Laura Houley was commissed to create a work for a candy store in Darlington.
The 17-year-old was asked to produce a three-dimensional installation for Bonbonito’s, in Skinnergate, which sells old-fashioned sweets and traditional ice-cream.
Laura, who has just finished her A-levels at Carmel RC College, designed and made a sweet jar with bon-bons spilling out of it.
“One of my friends, who is friends with the people who own the store, told me they were looking for someone to create a piece of artwork,”
she said. “I went down to speak to them with my work and they really liked it and gave me the commission. I was really pleased and proud.”
Laura, of Darlington, will study musical theatre at York St John University. She obtained an A grade in her art course work, but said: “I want to do theatre, but I will keep up my art in my free time. I plan to join the art society at university because I love creating art.”
