THE redevelopment of Billingham Town Centre is continuing with works on one of the town’s main car parks.

A range of repairs are being carried out on the electric lighting, road surface and speed bumps at Kingsway car park.

Columns and the underside of the upper deck are also being painted.

Stockton Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith said: “This is the latest stage in the on-going redevelopment of Billingham town centre. We are seeing a whole host of improvements in Billingham so residents and visitors can benefit from first class facilities.

“We appreciate that it may be more difficult to park while the works are under way but the improvements will be worth it in the long term.

"We want people to easily visit the town’s shops, market and leisure opportunities so ensuring the Kingsway car park is well maintained is essential.”

The £140,000 car park works funded by Stockton Council and Mayforth, who own the town centre, will take about eight weeks to complete.

Meanwhile, a new £2.7m library and customer service centre is being constructed on the site of the town’s former art gallery and council offices.

It will open early in 2015 bringing together a public library, customer service facilities for Stockton Council and Tristar Homes as well as offices for Billingham Town Council.

At the end of last year £2.3m works to upgrade the paving, seating, lighting and bandstand in Billingham Town Centre were completed complementing the new public toilets, CCTV, windows and stairways delivered in early 2013. The investment was carried out by the council in partnership with Mayforth.
