WORK on repairing flood-damaged footpaths on a nature reserve is one of the community projects in Richmondshire to share a cash windfall.

More than 50 schemes in the district have shared £28,000 of funding from Richmondshire District Council already this year.

So far the council’s Richmondshire Area Partnership has awarded to money to groups such as Swaledale and Arkengarthdale Luncheon Club, Richmondshire Youth Council and supported Swaledale Festival and Leyburn 1940s weekend.

About £500 was awarded for work at Foxglove Covert in the Catterick Garrison area. It paid for footpaths on the reserve to be repaired following flood damage in September.

The money has enabled all the schemes to go on and secure more than £275,000 in total project costs for the area.

There are five partnerships in the Richmondshire District Council area covering central Richmondshire, the upper dales, Catterick Garrison, north Richmondshire and lower Wensleydale.

They were set up to address local needs and issues and aim to involve communities in decisions affecting them. Each partnership has a dedicated pot of money to spend on community and voluntary initiatives as well as projects looking to address the partnership priorities.
