PEOPLE are being offered help and advice on how to stage a community event during a number of free workshops taking place in the next two weeks.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is holding four sessions aimed at both individuals and people representing voluntary and community organisations.

Templates will be provided at the workshops that will guide people through the process in relation to land permissions, licences and road closures.

Councillor Steve Goldswain, the council’s cabinet member for community safety, said: “We want to encourage people to organise their own community events and help them through the process.

“We appreciate it might seem daunting but it’s actually a relatively simple process to produce an event management plan.

“This document will help make sure the event runs safely and smoothly but it is not a contract between the council and the organiser of the event.”

Experienced officers will be on hand to answer questions and the event will highlight the advice available from the Redcar and Cleveland Independent Safety Advisory Group.

Workshops will be held at Tuned In, Majuba, Redcar, from 1.30pm to 4pm and 6.30pm to 9pm on Wednesday, May 7, in the performance hall, and from 1pm to 3.30pm and 7pm to 9.30pm, on Tuesday, May 13, in the ICT suite.

People should book a place by emailing jane.shearer@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk or calling 01642-444362.
