STAFF and pupils are celebrating after a primary school was upgraded from satisfactory to good during its latest Ofsted report.

Inspectors who visited Caedmon Primary School, in Grangetown, near Redcar, highlighted pupils’ behaviour as good in class and exemplary around the school.

Pupils’ achievements were another area of significant improvement while inspectors noted the school was well placed to make further “rapid improvements”.

Sarah Richardson, headteacher, said: "This inspection report is testament to the hard work and commitment of the teaching and support staff at Caedmon and I feel extremely lucky to lead this dedicated team.

"This team, along with our wonderful pupils and very supportive parents, make Caedmon a very special place and we will continue to work hard to provide the very best for each and every pupil."

The school was previously rated satisfactory, following an inspection in November 2011, and was revisited by inspectors last month.

Councillor Joan Guy, Redcar and Cleveland Council’s cabinet member for children’s services and education, said it was a fantastic result.

She said: “Everyone at the school, its governors and the parents should be proud of this achievement, which has taken a great deal of hard work.

“The inspectors have recognised the improvements that have already been made at the school and the potential for even more.”

Pupils’ attitudes in lessons were said to enable them to make good progress, overall, while teaching was rated good in all years and outstanding in years five and six.
