A YOUTH music charity is teaming up with a music festival to invite every school in North Yorkshire to enjoy a piano recital in their classroom.

North Yorkshire Youth Music Action Zone (NYMAZ) is giving pupils the chance to hear the recital by acclaimed young pianist Martin James Bartlett, winner of BBE Young Musician 2014, at noon on Friday, July 17, when he performs as part of Harrogate Festival.

Pupils will be able to see and hear Mr Bartlett perform a selection of pieces by Rachmaninov, Mozart and Prokofiev from Harrogate’s Wesley Chapel as it is filmed and streamed online, allowing it to reach schools across the county.

Heidi Johnson, director of NYMAZ, said: "The National Curriculum for music details that pupils should experience live music performances given by high quality musicians, yet transport times, costs and basic logistics make it difficult for schools in North Yorkshire to access performances.

"We hope video-streaming will prove a practical solution to those issues, while providing children with an exciting, unforgettable experience which enables them to explore different music genres."
