A NEW collection of books for people with dementia and their carers is now available from libraries across North Yorkshire.
The new books are part of the national Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme, with the help of funding from the county council.
County councillor Clare Wood said improving dementia services and the quality of care was a key priority.
“We have an ageing population and know that over 9,000 of our residents are living with dementia.
“Our aim is to improve the quality of life for people with dementia, promote their independence and help them plan and maintain their social networks, as well as supporting their carers.
“This collection of books will also help the many people living without a formal diagnosis of dementia, who may be worrying about symptoms and wanting to find out more.”
Information about the books in the collection can be found at readingagency.org.uk/adults/news/reading-well-books-on-prescription-for-dementia-booklist.html
The books are in 19 of North Yorkshire’s libraries now and can also be ordered from the on-line library catalogue northyorks.gov.uk/article/23581/Browse-reserve-and-renew-items
