A SERIES of consultation meetings are to be held into North Yorkshire’s ambitious plans for extra care housing in every major town in the county.

The county council has developed a new strategy for extra care schemes which has been designed to meet future needs.

It follows feedback from the public that older people wish to live independent lives in their own homes and want more choice and control over their support.

By 2020 nearly a quarter of North Yorkshire’s residents will be over 65 and the number of people predicted to have dementia will have increased by more than 20 per cent.

And the aim therefore is that by 2020 there would be more than 50 extra care housing schemes across the county to meet the needs of people living with dementia and the changing aspirations of the wider population.

Consultation meetings over the proposals will be held across the county during October, including at Richmond library on October 13 from 1pm to 6pm and Northallerton library on October 29 from 1pm to 6pm.
