THE numbers of people killed and seriously injured in Hambleton District in 2012/2013 increased by nearly a third.

Up to April last year 102 people were killed and seriously injured in crashes, compared to 77 the year before, although the numbers of fatalities across the county fell to it’s lowest level since records began with 31 people killed.

Members of North Yorkshire’s Hambleton Area committee were told the numbers of motorcyclists killed last year had decreased in 2012 /13 when there was an exceptionally wet summer, but the numbers killed between 2013/2014 had increased by 200 per cent across the county to 15.

Councillors were told road safety work is being carried out in schools and with young drivers, older drivers and motorcyclists.
