HISTORY experts are holding a special event to help enthusiasts dig down to their family roots.

The Local and Family History Day is being organised by North Yorkshire County Council’s County Record Office at Harrogate Pavilions on Saturday, March 15, entry is £2.

As well as keynote talks from leading figures, the fair will have stalls and trade stands run by a wide range of archaeology and history organisations.

“Finding out about your family’s roots can be one of the most interesting and rewarding of all activities,” said County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Library and Information Services.

“But knowing how to make the best of the hundreds of diverse sources available to you can be difficult.

"That’s where the experts and organisations we are gathering together can be a real help and make all the difference.”

A programme of four one hour talks will be held throughout the day. Subjects to be covered include The Workhouse, and surnames and place names.

Talks cost £3 each, and can be booked in advance: all four can be purchased for the special price of £10.
