PEOPLE with mental health issues have been able to take advantage of a successful project delivered through Middlesbrough's libraries.
Since Reading Well Books on Prescription was launched in July 2013 the town’s libraries have seen the titles on offer borrowed almost 600 times.
The most requested titles offer support to those suffering from anxiety or depression.
Cllr Brenda Thompson, executive member for supporting communities, said: “It is wonderful to see such a simple idea being so well received and helping so many people.
“Many borrowers have been referred by a health professional but just as many have been helped by simply picking up a book during a library visit.
“We would like to make it as widely known as possible that Reading Well Books on Prescription exists and that it can offer huge help to anyone suffering from or trying to assist someone with mental health issues.”
Middlesbrough holds four collections of the titles which are available to browse in Central, Acklam, Thorntree and North Ormesby libraries.
