THE opening of the Transporter bridge in 1911 to the closing of the last men-only pub will be memories brought to life at a screening held this week.

"Middlesbrough on film” presented by North-East Film Archives is being broadcast on Thursday, May 1, at The Crypt, Middlesbrough Town Hall, at 7pm with a £2 entrance fee.

The event, part of Local History month, will show the life, landscape and culture of the town captured on film during the last century. For tickets call the box office on 01642-729729.

HAIRSPRAY AUDITIONS: Middlesbrough Amateur Operatic Society is holding a ‘Hairspray’ audition on Sunday, May 4, at Acklam Grange School which can be accessed through the Acorn Centre. Registration is at 2pm with the vocal and dance workshops starting at 2.30pm. All hopefuls must be aged 16 or over by November 3 this year.

CORONER APPEAL: The Coroner is seeking relatives of Arvina Patel, aged 71 years, of Dent Street in Hartlepool who was found dead at his home address on Wednesday, April 23. CLASSICAL CONCERT: The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra is giving a rare performance of Shostakovich’s 9th Symphony before the musicians are joined on stage at Middlesbrough Town Hall by pianist Natasha Paremski for Rachmaninav’s Piano Concerto No.2 which was made famous by the film Brief Encounter. The evening will conclude with the full suite from Tchaikovsky’s popular ballet, Sleeping Beauty. The concert is on Tuesday, May 13, at 7.45pm. For tickets costing from £12 call 01642-729729.
