RECOVERING addicts and alcoholics will be partying at Middlesbrough Town Hall to celebrate turning their lives around.

The revellers will be able to enjoy live music and listen to the personal accounts of others in the crypt on Tuesday, March 25.

The shindig is being organised by Middlesbrough Council’s Public Health and Wellbeing team and Middlesbrough Recovering Together (MRT), a new service supporting people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse in the town.

Edward Kunonga, Middlesbrough Council’s Director of Public Health, said: “This is a positive event that will raise awareness of the service for supporting people recover from drugs and alcohol in Middlesbrough."

Partners will be invited to a series of workshops throughout the afternoon and the event will then open to the public for a celebration from 4.30pm onwards.

It will also see the graduation of eight peer mentors who have been through the recovery journey themselves and are now trained up to provide support to others.

Event host Tanya Scott, of MRT, said: “It’s great to see everybody coming together to help send out a powerful message to all those struggling with issues around substance misuse."

The event is free and open to all adults who want to join in the celebration of recovery. It is alcohol free and refreshments will be provided.
