AN INFORMATION session will be held this weekend to outline a new fostering initiative that offers carers and children extra support.

Set up by Durham County Council, Fostering Plus offers to help children who may struggle to cope with adoption with extra support to live as part of a family.

The information session on fostering is on Saturday, October 3 at County Hall, Durham, between 10am and 2pm.

Fostering team manager at Durham County Council Florence Coulter said: “Our information session is a great opportunity for anyone thinking about fostering to come along and find out more”.

The information session also offers a way to meet other like-minded foster carers in the area.

Fostering Plus offers a range of support including therapeutic support, sessions with social workers and family support which are available on evenings and weekends.

Skills training are also available to help carers to develop skills needed to care for a young person.

Ms Coulter added: “Fostering Plus is a great opportunity for people who want to make a difference to children.

“We have children who have been through some difficult times in their life and they need help to cope with their feelings and emotions.

‘We would like to reassure anyone thinking about fostering that there is plenty of support available from a range of professionals and with Fostering Plus."
