A SERIES of roadworks will take place during the school half term.

Durham County Council has announced it is carrying out carriageway resurfacing routes on a string of key routes, with the work taking place during the school holidays to minimise disruption.

In Spennymoor, the A688 will be closed in two phases between February 14 and 22 between the Middlestone Moor roundabout and Gas Works roundabout, with diversions in place.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed on two sections of the A167 in Durham City. On February 15, work will take place on the approaches to the traffic signals near St Monica Grove and the A690 Crossgate Peth, while on February 22 work will take place on the southbound approach to Neville’s Cross.

A section of the A691 Durham Road in Lanchester will be closed in two phases from February 21-22 and February 28-March1.

Diversions will be in place and bus services will continue to operate, but any passengers wishing to travel from the section being omitted by buses can book a free taxi through the council’s Travel Response Centre on 03000 269 999 which will provide the connection with bus services at the village green.

Brian Buckley, strategic highways manager at Durham County Council, said: “These important works have been planned to take place over the school holidays and weekends to keep any disruption to a minimum.

“We apologise in advance for any delays resulting from these works and we appreciate motorists’ patience while they are carried out.”
