Coronation plaque back on tree
A RESTORED plaque has been reattached to a sycamore tree planted at Thornton in Cleveland to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902.
The tree was planted by Tom Galloway, who farmed at Thornton Low Farm until his retirement. His wife, Esther, had the plaque put on the tree in memory of her husband when he died in the early 1970s.
It was removed and restored by Tony Slack, who lives at Dorset Ledges, as part of a project to enhance that part of the village for this year's Northumbria in Bloom competition.
The tree stands next to a water pump, which has had a new handle attached and has been repainted. Flowers have been planted in and around an ornamental trough underneath it.
