Police investigation after fireworks thrown at Darlington mosque

POLICE are investigating after fireworks were put through the door of a Darlington mosque late last night.

The Jamia Mosque, in North Lodge Terrace, suffered minimal damage in the incident, which was reported at 10.05pm on Friday, but police have asked potential witnesses to come forward.

Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and checking CCTV footage in an effort to determine who was responsible.

Duty Inspector Nadim Khaliq, from Darlington Police, said that officers could not rule out a racial or religious aspect to the incident because it is a place of worship.

Duty Insp Khaliq has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact him through the non-emergency 101 number.
