CABLE EXPLOSION: A Darlington man is in hospital with severe burns after the cable he was cutting through exploded.
The 42-year-old man, from Fenby Avenue, in Darlington, was cutting through a cable in an NEDL electrical compound when it exploded, sending 11,000 volts through his body.
He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital after the incident, which happened at 2.45am this morning but has since been transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), in Newcastle, where he is in a stable condition in the burns unit.
A 39-year-old Darlington man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A DESCENDANT of the great Victorian novelist Charles Dickens popped into Darlington Civic Theatre today.
Lucinda Dickens Hawksley, the great, great, great-granddaughter of the esteemed writer, gave a unique insight into Dickens’ life with a speech delivered before the matinee performance of Great Expectations.

Tony Mowbray revealed that striker Luke Williams is out of Middlesbrough's trip to Brighton this weekend with a hip flexor injury. I'm not sure what a hip flexor is, but it appears to be enough to rule Williams out for the weekend.

Bad news for campaigners against the £1.4bn waste complex at Allerton Park Quarry near Knaresborough - planners are recommending that county councillors approve the development.
Opponents are now hoping the issue will go before a public inquiry - when they are confident their arguments will prevail.
