A ROAD that was the scene of a fatal road traffic accident where a 19-year-old man was killed this morning has reopened.

The A689 at Sedgefield, County Durham, was closed in both directions following a collision between two vehicles just past the Sands End roundabout towards the A177 at 7.50am.

A 19-year-old man from the Stockton area was pronounced dead by a Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) doctor at the scene.

A GNAA spokesperson said: "We attended a seriously injured patient on the A689, but despite the best efforts of the crew the patient unfortunately died."

Witnesses are being sought and accident investigators want to hear from anyone who saw a broken down Peugeot 406 along the road before 7.50am this morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham police’s accident unit on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
