THIEVES have stolen a distinctive Land Rover from Catterick Garrison belonging to a serving soldier.

Police today issued photographs of the modified, short wheelbase Land Rover 90, which was taken from a car park at Helles Barracks, Scotton Road, between September 29 and October 4, in the hope it can be traced.

It is green with a white roof and had been modified by the owner - who had added windows, snorkel exhaust, upgraded gearbox, black steel wheels and galvanized chassis.

Police want to hear from anyone who has any information, including anyone who witnessed the vehicle being taken from the car park and anyone who has had it offered for sale.

Investigating officer, PC Mark Reed of Catterick Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I’m hoping the photographs will jog someone’s memory.

"Whether they have seen it being driven away, been offered it for sale, or knows where it is now, I urge them to contact the police.

“The vehicle is worth a lot to its owner who has put a lot of work into customising it.

“If anyone saw any suspicious people, vehicles or activity in the car park over the six-day period, or saw the vehicle been driven away, I urge you to contact the police immediately.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Mark Reed.

Alternatively, you can pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
