Man left fighting for life after Darlington pub assault

A MAN is fighting for his life after being violently assaulted in a Darlington pub.
The attack happened just after 11pm last night in The William Stead, in Crown Street, Darlington.
The 33-year-old local man was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but was later transferred to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he remains in intensive care.
Detective Sergeant Sean Jackson, of Darlington CID, said: "This was a very violent assault and as a result the victim is in intensive care.
“The attack took place in the downstairs area of the pub, directly in front of the bar. It was a violent attack and anybody who witnessed it would have been shocked by the level of violence used.
"We have the suspects on CCTV and we are confident we will be able to locate them."
The venue is run by pub giant, JD Wetherspoon. A spokesman for the company said: "We can confirm there was an incident in The William Stead on Monday evening.
"The pub is currently closed while police carry out their investigations.
"This was a very distressing incident and we will be working with the police as they carry on their investigations."
