VETERAN WINNERS: Beth Davidson, second left, with her England teammates in Singapore
A NORTH-EAST fencer has won two gold medals after representing her country in an international championship.
Beth Davidson, from Darlington, represented England at the Commonwealth Veteran Fencing championships in Singapore, winning the team and individual sabre events.
Ms Davidson, who competes in the category one age range, for 40 to 49-year-olds, had a smooth path to the final, where she defeated a former world champion.
In the team event, Ms Davidson helped her team mates defeat Wales and Australia to win gold for England.
Her victories in Singapore mean Ms Davidson is now national, Commonwealth and European champion in her age group.
When she is not competing Ms Davidson is based at Northumbria University as the region’s fencing development officer and trains at Durham University.
She said: “It’s been a fantastic year so far. I’m focusing on the next European individuals because I only achieved silver last year and that would mean I would be the holder of all veteran titles for my age group, but keeping on top of injuries will be the greatest challenge.”
