THE Duke of Cambridge has pulled out of a planned visit to the North-East, leaving his wife to carry on alone.

The duchess will attend four engagements in Stockton, Newcastle and Gateshead, tomorrow, without the Duke of Cambridge, after St James’ Palace announced he would instead attend the funeral of his former nanny, Olga Powell.

A spokesman said: “Given the significant role that Mrs Powell played in the princes’ lives, the duke wishes to pay his respects in person.”

As part of the tour, the Duchess of Cambridge will visit the CRI Stockton Recovery Service.

The centre, which supports people aged 18 and over who are using drugs, is a partner of Action on Addiction, of which Kate is a patron.

Before coming to Stockton, she will also visit Newcastle Civic Centre, followed by Elswick Park, in Newcastle, and charity Keyfund at Gateshead Youth Council.

􀁧 The Prince of Wales will visit Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham, on Tuesday, October 23, to open a canteen and meeting room at Middleton- in-Teesdale Farmers’ Auction Mart. He will meet farmers, supporters and staff.

Prince Charles will also tour the Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services and meet beneficiaries and volunteers.
