ROAD BLOCKED: The lorry on its side near Darlington
A MAIN road was closed for several hours yesterday after a lorry overturned at a roundabout.
A section of the A66 Darlington ring road was closed between the Great Burdon roundabout and the Morton Park roundabout for much of the day after the lorry shed its load of wood panels at about 10.50am.
Police closed the road while the vehicle was recovered, but it took several hours to clear the pallets, which are thought to have been badly stacked, causing the vehicle to tip as it negotiated a roundabout at the junction with the new B6279 bypass.
The road closures caused tailbacks on the A66 for much of the day, as well as congestion in the Red Hall and Lingfield areas of the town.
The lorry driver is not thought to have been injured.
