Music festival in line for awards

ONE of the region’s biggest music festivals has been put forward for a national award.

Stockton Weekender is nominated in two categories at this year’s UK Festival Awards.

The event, which was attended by about 17,000 people this year, is in the Best Medium- Sized Festival and Best Family Festival categories.

This year saw record numbers attend the three-day music event, which was headlined by The Pogues and James and also saw acts such We Are Scientists, The Go!

Team, Willy Mason, Ocean Colour Scene acoustic, The Crookes, Jake Bugg and a wealth of local talent performing across its four stages.

The festivals organiser, Tees Music Alliance (TMA), is encouraging anyone who attended to show their support by casting a vote online before October 31.

TMA director Paul Burns said: “Being an ‘awardwinning’ festival would be a great kudos and would definitely help us catch the attention of the bigger acts we’re looking to lure in the future.”

The news of the nomination comes just as TMA has announced that next year Stockton Weekender will move from the first weekend in August to the last weekend in July.
