A LORRY driver has fallen off the flyover on the A19 northbound carriageway following an accident.

Cleveland Police said the lorry had turned on to its side just after the slip road from the A66 that joins the A19 flyover at 11am today.

The road will remain closed for several hours while recovery teams try to lift the lorry from its position.

A police spokeswoman said: “The driver has fallen out of his lorry during the accident and has fallen off the flyover - a height of more than 30 feet.

“The male driver has been flown by the Great North Air Ambulance to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital with spinal and neck injuries.”

There was also a diesel spillage at the scene and a full road closure is currently in operation on the A66 westbound and A19 northbound.

hopefully driver will be ok, but surely there should be a law for them to wear seat belts as well? if he had one on then he would not have fallen out of his vehicle?!
