"Minor explosion and fire" at SSI plant

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a steel plant earlier today after a minor explosion.

The incident took place at the SSI BOS plant at Lackenby, on Teesside, shortly after 5am.

No-one was hurt and SSI has described it as a "minor explosion and fire" which happened when water was being put on slag to cool it.

No-one was hurt and there was no disruption to operations at the plant, and fire fighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade spent an hour and a half at the site.
