Urgent appeal over whereabouts of missing prisoner

Bernard Sharkey Bernard Sharkey

POLICE are today still searching for a missing prisoner who failed to return to jail after working in the community.

Members of the public have been warned not to approach Bernard Lee Sharkey, 34, who was last seen at Newham Grange Farm, Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, at 12.30pm on Thursday, and did not go back to Kirklevington Prison.

He was serving an indeterminate sentence for threats to kill, affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is described as 5ft 9in tall, with short cropped brown hair, blue eyes, and of proportionate build.

He has a scar on the left hand side of his top lip and he has a Celtic band tattoo on his upper left arm.

He was last seen wearing a red striped polo shirt and grey jogging bottoms.

Police say he has links with both the Grangetown and Morpeth areas, and are warning members of the public not to approach him but to call 999 immediately if they see him.

Why, in the name of sanity, is someone with this sentance working in the community- a place designed for families?

What I don't understand is why it takes them so long to release the info. Over three days, people could have seen him 10 times over and not realised!

Anyone else wondering what's happened to his ears?

"He was serving an indeterminate sentence for threats to kill, affray and possession of an offensive weapon" Spot on Marilyn 49. Obviously this psycho is not a petty criminal, so it beggars belief why he got this sentance and who else is lurking out there after convictions on similar community programmes. These soft options have got to stop as rehabilitation for most criminals just doesnt work, they never change. A weak justice system which is soft on criminals putting their rights above victims!

although it is not nice to know someone such as this is on the loose there are probably worse people out there that have not yet been caught out by the law .

How, if he is so dangerous that no one should approach him, has he managed to be in an open prison and to have a work placement in a family orientated place...... That is the prisons system gone completely wrong!!!!!

Actually, the judge sentenced him to an indeterminate sentence, with a guide of seven years, before being considered for parole.
Obviously,he has been assessed, and considered low-risk.In other words, another monumental ****-up by the prison &probation service,as this guy has been harbouring a grudge, and biding his time.I hope the police guarding the target are more competent!
