Woman attacked by man in her own home

POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was attacked and injured in her own home.

The incident took place on Beechwood Avenue in Middlesbrough shortly before 1am on Friday.

The man entered the house through the front door and attacked the woman living there, who is in her early 30s.

She suffered facial injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

Her attacker then escaped through the front door. He is described as white, in his early twenties, less than 6ft 2in tall, of medium build, and was wearing a black jacket, dark tracksuit bottoms and spoke with a deep voice and local accent.

Police have carried out house to house enquiries and believe there was a man stood in the alleyway near to the premises at around 12.15am.

He is described as 6ft tall, aged 20-years-old, of muscular build and of a tanned or Asian appearance. He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up, and black tracksuit bottoms with three pale or light blue stripes down the side.

Police believe he may have information that could help and are particularly keen to speak to him.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Smiles from Middlesbrough CID said: “This appears to have been an unprovoked attack in a woman’s own home.

"Although not seriously injured by the assault, she was shaken up.

"We are particularly appealing for the man who was seen in the alleyway to come forward and also anyone else who may have been in the area and seen anything to contact Middlesbrough CID on the non-emergency number 101."
