Talented teen hoping her take on Kinks classic will win her army of fans

A TEEN songstress hopes her take on a rock classic will win her an army of fans - including the band that made it a hit in the 1960s.
Anna Stainton recorded her version of The Kinks’ 1964 chart topper You Really Got Me for an online competition.
The talenthouse competition challenged musicians and singers to produce a creative and original cover of any song by the band.
The 15-year-old, of Cotherstone, in Teesdale, County Durham, has produced a slowed-down acoustic interpretation of the track, with friend Martin White on guitar.
She said: “I think most people have heard and know the song, You Really Got Me.
“It was a bit of a love song in my head so I wanted it to sound romantic, to really get the meaning of the lyrics across to the audience.
“I tried to change it as much as possible to make it my own and without realising I gave it a different, slower tempo.”
Now she is urging people in the region to listen to her track and vote if they like it.
The most popular entries will then go to The Kinks themselves to judge their favourite adaptation.
If Anna wins she will get to record the song in London’s Konk Studios and meet band members Ray Davies and Mick Avory.
Ultimately, Anna hopes to have a career in music and plans to go to the Access to Music college, in Darlington, when she leaves Teesdale School, in Barnard Castle .
Anna discovered her musical love and talent when she was little and has had singing lessons since she was nine-years-old and recently began learning to play the guitar.
She is also the lead singer in three bands - The Prototypes and Lady Godiva which are based at The Hub youth facility, in Barnard Castle - and Band of Three.
She said: “I love music and singing, I’ve a musical family and have entered other competitions.
“I’m a bit nervous to think The Kinks will hear my version but it is exciting, it would be really exciting to record in a professional studio and a great opportunity.”
