Northallerton rider Nicola Wilson has won an Olympic silver medal with the eventing team.

The team, including Wilson, from Morton-on-Swale, near Northallerton, and Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Zara Phillips, were beaten to the gold medal by Germany.

New Zealand clinched bronze at Greenwich Park.

Britain's silver is the country's 18th Olympic post-war eventing medal.

Wilson on Opposition Buzz had earlier scored four penalty points in her showjumping round to finish the three-day event with a score of 55.70.

She said: "SheSheShe SheI'm absolutely gutted to have had that one fence down, but he gave me an absolutely beautiful ride.

"I'll be going to bite my nails and watch the rest of the competition now. It's very close, but I have complete faith in the rest of the riders in the team."
