19-year-old Thirsk man dies in crash on A168 at Northallerton

A YOUNG driver has died after a crash near Northallerton this morning.

The 19-year-old man, from the Thirsk area, was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on the A168 towards Northallerton when his car collided with a coal lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

The accident happened two miles south of Northallerton close to Aquatic Fanatic.

The 19-year-old suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 51-year-old man from Heage, Derbyshire who was driving the lorry was not injured.

The road was closed for five hours following the collision.

Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, said: “If you saw either of the vehicles involved in the collision prior to the incident I ask that you contact the police as soon as possible.”
