and in other news, the ride from bishop to darlington on the number 5 bus was 'bumpy' due to pot holes in the road. no 'upset' passengers were reported, but one person was later to have said he was a little 'peeved' and would not be travelling for another week. the bus was undamaged and continued on a return journey, albeit a little late.

I'm no fan of antagonist1, but hats off to him/her here, i think you have more chance of new jobs being announced by the government for Darlington, than a terrorist attack.

And if the authorities had just ignored the package and it had exploded killing innocent shoppers then this article would have been a lot different. It would be on the national news along with complaints that the Police had just ignored the situation and left the package unchecked.

The fact that a terrorist attack in Darlington may be thought of as unlikely is no reason at all for the authorities to turn a blind eye to incidents such as these. I find it reassuring that they are onto things like this.

As for new jobs from the government : Now that is a very unlikely situation. Darlington are a strong Labour seat, so the Tories don't see any milage in bringing jobs here that they can use as a carrot in a marginal. Look how long it took to confirm Hitachi. They wanted it to go elsewhere. Luckily Hitachi are clever enough to know where they will get a good workforce.

A terrorist attack ANYWHERE is highly unlikely, yet that is the first thing that springs to mind when an 'unattended package' is found.
Wow!

Step one to a fascist dictatorship - create an enemy...............

Of course it is the first thing that springs to mind when an unattended package is found. Mainly because there have been many occassions where they have exploded killing innocent people. If you think that the likelyhood of a terrorist attack in highly unlikely then you quite clearly have no idea about the security risk to this country.

Absolutely bang on (pardon the pun).

Does anyone still fall for this "terrorist threat" or "for security reasons" clap trap anymore?

Let's get some perspective.

You've got more chance of getting knocked down crossing a road.

Don't let those who are supposed to protect our way of life destroy it!

Well next time there is a suspicious package found why not volunteer to open it?

Really, do tell me your sources as I am sure the Home Office, MI5, police and MOD would be pleased to have their minds put at ease.

I'm not sure how well this comment would go down in Manchester or London; terrorist attack, never happen here....

Fear is the primary weapon in a terrorist arsenal.

ha what a sheep. Believe all that the media feed you and live in fear.

I guess Wilkos on Crown Street would be a real feather in the cap of any terrorist and the next best alternative to blowing up Big Ben.

Not quite Fossildog, I read many secuirty updates every week as part of my job, my knowledge is not based on media spin but actual reports. The location for a terrist is not important, it's the event.

Perhaps if we spent less time pointlessly attacking other people (Iraq, Afghanistan) We would be less paranoid about them attacking us
