Car driver in hospital after early morning crash

A 63-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with a broken leg after being involved in a car crash in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to Riverside Park Road, in Middlesbrough, shortly before 6am.
Two vehicles, a Skoda Fabia and a Vauxhall Corsa, had collided on a roundabout close to the headquarters of the Cleveland Cable Company.
The 63-year-old driver of the Corsa was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he remains.
He had become trapped in his vehicle by the foot and had to be released by firefighters.
The 46-year-old Skoda driver was not seriously injured in the collision.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “It happened on the new bypass roundabout, between Newport roundabout and the Cleveland Cable Company.
“The Corsa was turning right on the roundabout on the bypass from Newport towards Middlehaven.
“The Skoda was travelling from the direction of Middlehaven, intending to turn right on Riverside Road, when the two collided.”
Witnesses to the collision are asked to call PC Mark Cubitt, of the Cleveland and Durham specialist operations unit, on 101, quoting incident number 112876.
