Traditional street party revives the spirit of years gone by

TRADITIONAL PARTY: The festivities in Langholm Crescent TRADITIONAL PARTY: The festivities in Langholm Crescent

RESIDENTS in a Darlington street decided to hold a traditional jubilee party to mark the special day.

The street party to rival those of the 1977 jubilee was held yesterday at Langholm Crescent.

Bunting was in abundance and there were people at tables up and down the length of the street, which had been closed off for the occasion.

Why not ? these people are celebrating queen and country, these are the people who care about this country, your attitude is the exact reason this country is slowly turning into a **** hole

I worked hard for 35 yearsfor little financial reward, pick up litter, never comitted a crime and served my community. My family also served in the wars. I much prefer to differentiate my service to the country from this type of blatant idol worship. The Royal family is a privileged family who have absolutely no idea what the plight of the ordinary man is nor would I expect them to. They are sustained by the comfortably rich establishment and are the cornerstone of everything I hate about this divided nation.

I was at this party yesterday, along with the 'idol worship' (dear me!) I saw it as a great opportunity to get to know others in my area and help to further establish a strong, caring community. So many people don't know their neighbours as society has changed so much in the last 50 years, I feel that yesterday we all made a contribution to making our community stronger.

Jewitt,
I don't care if the royal family cares about me. i care about the royal family and would have no loyalty to a UK or EU overpaid & money grabbing president.
Why don't you sad republicans join in the fun?
I hope Yesterday and todays celebrations encourage you to move to Russia, Cuba, North Korea or France.
Long live monarchy
GOD SAVE TEH QUEEN !!!!

Ok, so what is the reality in the UK now? a government trying to quantitive-ease it's way out of a double-dip recession, caused not by the monarchy but over greedy bankers and politician's bleeding this country dry ( by the way, if you look on the Monarchy as purely a business, it rakes in millions in tourism and merchandising, creating jobs, far above what it costs to keep,) a government that is determined to fractionalise society by introducing stupid schemes and laws while Brussels holds them by the short & curly's. This weekend has given us an opportunity to try and build a good strong community again regardless of wether or not you agree with Monarchy. reality? - get real. Long Live The Queen.

I only hope she doesn't live to 96, the thought of going through all this sham adulation again is not a pleasant prospect. Hopefully now there will be something else on the tv and radio when it is switched on, it has been utter tedium for the last four days and goodness knows how long leading up to it.
