MORE than 500 people were given a day to remember at a multi-prize winning jubilee street party on Saturday.

Organisers of the party, held at Dinsdale Avenue and Walworth Grove in Acklam, were the winners of three jubilee themed competitions.

The day got off to a great start thanks to prizes that included a special bus from Arriva which arrived at the party packed full of bunting, flags, tea and cake. The other prizes were £250 worth of food from Iceland and a £100 voucher from Co-op.

Clare Marron, a married mother of two who has lived on Dinsdale Avenue for 20 years, was the winner of the Arriva competition.

She said: "This was our second street party. Over 300 people came to the one we had last year for the Royal wedding and it increased community spirit. Street parties help bring everyone together.

"I remember street parties that we had when I was young, for things like the silver jubilee. They are really strong childhood memories."

The party was organised by 8 families from the area and raised over £700 for Teesside Hospice. Activities included a balloon launch, disco, magician and bucking bronco.

Mrs Marron said: "The highlight of the day was when all of the dads who helped organise the party dressed up as Queen and performed to some of their songs."
