A MOTORCYCLIST has died after his bike was in a collision with a tractor.
The 35-year-old, who has been named locally as Richard Turner, from Appersett, near Hawes, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened on the A684 at the Mire Bank Lane junction near Burtersett, about a mile outside Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales, at around 5.30pm on Thursday.
Police said this morning that the man’s next of kin had been informed but they were not in a position to confirm the his identity.
The man was riding a blue and white Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle, which was travelling from Leyburn towards Hawes, when it collided with a red Case tractor.
The 48-year-old local man driving the tractor was not injured in the collision.
Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording, of the force's Roads Policing Group, said: "This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man.
"I urge anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to it to contact the police straight away."
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact Richmond police on 101, press option two and ask for Tony Leonard.
