A MEETING on effective mink control to help save the water vole takes place later this month.

The North Yorkshire Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group has joined forces with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to stage the event at Amblers Farm, Whinneythwaite Lane, Tockwith, on Thursday, at 2pm.

The water vole, which has suffered serious decline through attacks by non-native mink, is a target species of the new Higher Level Stewardship Scheme.

Even if farmers and landowners do not have water voles, they can help stop mink from reaching colonies in the neighbourhood.

All are welcome, but particularly those in the York and Selby areas where the trust is focusing on protecting water voles.

Speakers include Jon Traill and Sylvia Jay from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and Phil Lyth from FWAG. ore details are available from FWAG on 01609-783632.
